Leave Dumfries heading west on the A75.Don’t worry you're only staying on the A75 until Crocketford, but you can enjoy the view as you climb up the dual carriageway through “the glen”.

Arriving in Crocketford look out for the A712 turning on the right. This is the Corsock Road, which has plenty of linked bends to really get your tyres warmed up! (10 miles).

After 15 miles at the junction for the A713, you are turning right heading North. The next turning left the puts you on A712 again. The Ken Bridge Hotel is right between these junctions and does coffees and great lunches on a Sunday so it may be worth a stop (25 miles).

Sweetheart AbbeyContinue past the Ken Bridge Hotel taking the first left on to the A712, “The Queensway” taking you right through the heart of the Galloway Forest Park. You pass through Clatteringshaws, eventually reaching Newton Stewart where there are cafes aplenty! (44 miles).

Leave Newton Stewart heading out onto the A75 travelling East for approx 4 miles, then left at the junction for Barholm, and then follow the B796 heading for Rusko. Eventually you will reach Gatehouse of Fleet (63 miles).

Kirkcudbright MarinaTurn right through Gatehouse of Fleet on the B796, then back to the A75 turning left heading East for only 1 mile. The A755 junction is on the right, ( the Borgue Road). After approx 1 mile bear right on to the B727 still heading for Borgue. The B727 will eventually bring you back around to join the A755 again. Turn right heading into Kirkudbright (76 miles).

Dundrennan AbbeyLeave Kirkudbright on the A711 heading south, through Dundrennan, then passing Palnackie after which you will eventually reach a bridge with traffic lights (93 miles).

Head East into Dalbeattie and take the left hand turning for the B794 to Haugh of Urr. Continue on and at the A75 turn left back heading West. Take the first exit off the roundabout heading in to Castle Douglas. At the next junction, turn left on to the A745 heading back towards Dalbeattie again! (110 miles).

After crossing the bridge with traffic lights again, take the A711 towards Dalbeattie. Take the next right turn, on to the A710 heading past Colvend, Sandyhills and Caulkerbush, through Kirkbean eventually arriving at New Abbey (130 miles.Sandyhills

Continue on A710 past Shambellie House until you reach Dumfries again (138 miles).
