This route - 105 miles, 169 kilometres

This route is definitely not for the faint hearted as the majority of its 110 miles is farm road and breathtaking scenery. It's a worthwhile idea to make a day of it. This is a trip for easing up on the throttle and just taking it “all” in.

The setting of St Mary’s Loch opening as you round the bend, paves the way for what’s to come. You will be taken through a number of quaint little towns, Ettrickbridge and Newcastleton to name but a few. The landscape changes as often as the weather, each bit unique in its own right. On many an occasion, out in the middle of nowhere, you’ll be tempted to pull over to a perfect picnic spot for a bum break. The road however can be quite a tease since the dips and bends don’t always allow it.

This route could quite easily have you phoning up your friendly estate agents for a quote on a wee country cottage. Being off the beaten track major traffic is rarely encountered on this route.

Thanks to The Buccleuch Arms Hotel, Moffat for providing this route.
