Depart Dumfries heading South on the B725, heading towards Kingholm Quay and Glencaple. Follow the B725 with the River Nith to your right until the road turns West and climbs up past Caerlaverock Castle, heading to Bankend where we want to turn right continuing on the B725/B724 to Cummertrees (17 miles).

Follow the B724 to Annan. Turn right onto the B721 which is Annan High Street. Continue through town heading West, and through Eastriggs, eventually to Gretna (29 miles).

Continue on B721 through Gretna until the roundabout at Gretna Gateway Outlet Village. Take the third exit A6071 to Longtown, leave Scotland and cross over the M74 motorway. Follow the A6071 West to Longtown. At the junction with the A7 just before Longtown, turn left North (33 miles).

Head North on the A7 back into Scotland, past Canonbie (40 miles).



On reaching Langholm, pass through the town and on your left look out for B709/B7068 and a bridge over the river.Just over the bridge there is a junction with a police station on the left. Turn left on to B7068 and follow the road out of Langholm past Bigholms and Callisterhall, until you reach Fallford (53 miles).


 

At Fallford, turn left South on to the B722 and after half a mile, turn left on to unclassified road to Wallacehall. Heading West and South through Solwaybank you will eventually join the B6357. Turn right South West towards Chapelknowe and eventually Kirkpatrick Fleming (65 miles).

Follow the B7076 (M74 service road) North West to Ecclefechan (72 miles).



At Ecclefechan Church turn left, South West, on to the B725 heading for Dalton. Head through Dalton North West onto B7020 to Lochmaben (84 miles).

From Lochmaben follow the A709 through Torthorwald back to Dumfries (93 miles).
